Monday, a recap in dorky tv history

I just have to share about Monday.  Now, normally Mondays are the days reserved for eating an entire carton of Häagen-Dazs while the toddlers watch Yo Gabba Gabba all day long (yes, I often fall victim to a "case of the Mondays") but last Monday was different.

Last Monday was the most geek-tastic day in the history of broadcast television.  Well, that's an exaggeration, but it sure was awesome, at least after the tots went to bed and I got to turn off Yo Gabba Gabba.  Does anyone else think that show is incredibly annoying and borderline creepy?

Anyway, season premiere of the last season of Eureka.  Okay, so did anyone else think that thing about Sheriff Carter and Jo dating and being surrogate parents to Allison's kids was incredibly stressful, until we realized it was all a cruel virtual reality?  Yeah.  Ick.

In further geek news, Felicia Day's character Holly seemed to evolve a bit.  I've been a little disappointed with what they did (or didn't do) with her character last season.  C'mon, people, we are talking about Codex (The Guild), here, about Penny (Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog).  She is dork royalty, and should definitely be used for more than Fargo's love interest.

Applause for more Wil Wheaton, though.  Every time he shows up on screen, I'm magically taken back to a simpler time, a time where he was a skinny kid with perfectly greased hair on Star Trek: The Next Generation...and my imaginary boyfriend.

Moving on, did you catch Castle?

Mal and Jayne, together again, and suddenly all's right with the world.

It wasn't quite Firefly, but at least they put in a Browncoat reference.  Maybe a little heavy-handed, even, but the nerd in me squealed like a little girl.  Or is it the little girl in me squealed like a nerd?

We also saw Alan Tudyk on an old episode of Frasier.  Not exactly current broadcast television, but, still, it was like a Firefly reunion in our living room Monday night.

Does anyone else get choked up when they think about Wash's tombstone at the end of Serenity?  I'm getting choked up now.  Oh, Wash, what's Zoe going to do without you?  I know, she was the tough one in your relationship, but underneath that facade she's still so vulnerable.  You were the wind beneath her wings, Wash! I'm gonna go cry now.

Memes

Okay, so I tend to blog a lot about things I love but I thought it was high time I posted about something I'm not a huge fan of...Guilt Memes.  A Guilt Meme is anything that floats around the internet that makes me feel bad about myself in any way, and they come in a few variations:

1.  The Post-This-Or-Else Meme.  These typically float around FB, and end in "99% of all my friends won't repost this."  I just think to myself...well OF COURSE I love Jesus/hate bullying/want brain cancer to be cured, but why do I have to be guilted into saying so?  Let me just say, if your post ends in "99% of all my friends won't repost this," you can be 100% sure I won't, even if I agree with it.  That's just basic math.

While we are on the subject, do you really think posting that you hate jaywalking is really going to fix the problem, anyway?  Even if every single person on Facebook reposted, would it change anything?  I'm going to go out on a limb here and say NOPE.  Facebook, really all social networks, are more about the illusion of having a platform than actually having one.

2.  The I'm-Going-To-Be-Skinny Meme.  This is a problem very common on Pinterest especially.  There's  a picture of very bronzed, greasy woman abs, with some "inspirational quote" about how pain is weakness leaving the body, or you shouldn't eat your problems, or how nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels.  I have many problems with this meme.

First, a woman with zero body fat is gross.  Those pictures?  Gross.

Second, I have children walking around my house, I don't want pictures of half-naked women showing up in my feed.

Third, have you ever eaten bacon?  Or chocolate?  There are MANY things that taste better than being skinny feels.  In moderation, of course.

3.  The Your-Problems-Aren't-As-Bad-As-My-Problems Meme.  I'm actually not going to give any examples of this one, there are too many to choose from.  Suffice to say, don't we all take the path of least resistance?  I'm not saying all problems are created equal, but a person can be sad that their dog died even if their grandmother didn't.

I'm going to change gears a little here.  You know what meme I really love?  The Ryan-Gosling-Hey-Girl Meme.  Who thought of that?  Brilliant.

I was never a huge Ryan Gosling fan, I didn't even like the Notebook to be honest, but it's like he's talking right to me.  Hilarious.

The Magical, Edible Letters

While singing the "C is for Cookie" song with the tots, I realized that 50% of my favorite foods start with the letter C.  The other half start with the letter B.

Now, I'm not talking about foods that I kind of like, or foods that are relatively yummy.  I'm talking about foods that, if they disappeared off the face of the earth, would actually decrease my quality of life.  In no particular order:
Coffee (with cream)

Chocolate

Bacon

Bread (freshly baked and still warm, I don't care about sliced sandwich bread you buy at the store)
Butter

Of course, there are literally dozens, probably hundreds, of other perfectly good B and C foods that aren't on my list.  Here is a small sample:

Corned Beef (let's be honest, all beef)
Brownies
Baby Bella Mushrooms
Banana Chips

Christmas Coffee (which is almost better than regular coffee)

Cheese
Chili

Banana Pudding

Blueberry Muffins
Broccoli (roasted)

Beer

Cheesecake

Chili Dogs

Chimichangas
Cocoa
Croissants

Banana Bear Breakfast Toast

Curry
Cinnamon Rolls
Bundt Cake (well, actually, all cake)
Buns
Churros

Burgers

Chips
Cornbread

Chocolate Chip Cookies (all cookies)

Coconut Oil
Carrot Cake
Cauliflower (roasted)
Burritos

Coca-Cola

BBQ
Brussel Sprouts
Chili Rellenos
Chicken
Brisket

And a whole meal, burger, beans, coleslaw

Then, of course, is the unfortunate inclusion of foods such as "beets," and the exclusion of "potatoes" and "pumpkin."  Henceforth, let them be known as "peets," "botatoes," and "bumpkin."

Now, our list is complete.
