Memes

Okay, so I tend to blog a lot about things I love but I thought it was high time I posted about something I'm not a huge fan of...Guilt Memes.  A Guilt Meme is anything that floats around the internet that makes me feel bad about myself in any way, and they come in a few variations:

1.  The Post-This-Or-Else Meme.  These typically float around FB, and end in "99% of all my friends won't repost this."  I just think to myself...well OF COURSE I love Jesus/hate bullying/want brain cancer to be cured, but why do I have to be guilted into saying so?  Let me just say, if your post ends in "99% of all my friends won't repost this," you can be 100% sure I won't, even if I agree with it.  That's just basic math.

While we are on the subject, do you really think posting that you hate jaywalking is really going to fix the problem, anyway?  Even if every single person on Facebook reposted, would it change anything?  I'm going to go out on a limb here and say NOPE.  Facebook, really all social networks, are more about the illusion of having a platform than actually having one.

2.  The I'm-Going-To-Be-Skinny Meme.  This is a problem very common on Pinterest especially.  There's  a picture of very bronzed, greasy woman abs, with some "inspirational quote" about how pain is weakness leaving the body, or you shouldn't eat your problems, or how nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels.  I have many problems with this meme.

First, a woman with zero body fat is gross.  Those pictures?  Gross.

Second, I have children walking around my house, I don't want pictures of half-naked women showing up in my feed.

Third, have you ever eaten bacon?  Or chocolate?  There are MANY things that taste better than being skinny feels.  In moderation, of course.

3.  The Your-Problems-Aren't-As-Bad-As-My-Problems Meme.  I'm actually not going to give any examples of this one, there are too many to choose from.  Suffice to say, don't we all take the path of least resistance?  I'm not saying all problems are created equal, but a person can be sad that their dog died even if their grandmother didn't.

I'm going to change gears a little here.  You know what meme I really love?  The Ryan-Gosling-Hey-Girl Meme.  Who thought of that?  Brilliant.

I was never a huge Ryan Gosling fan, I didn't even like the Notebook to be honest, but it's like he's talking right to me.  Hilarious.
